Encompassing 71,000 acres in the Black Hills, Custer State Park is home to abundant wildlife and adventure: camping, hiking, biking, swimming, fishing, or relaxing. There’s something here for everyone.

Experience scenic views and wildlife from the road or trail. There are miles of trails with a variety of terrain and views open to foot, horse, or biking. Scenic drives are popular through the park, including Iron Mountain Road, Needles Highway, and the Wildlife Loop.

Several waterways offer opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming. Including Sylvan Lake, Center Lake, Stockade Lake, and Legion Lake. Relax in the many campgrounds throughout the park. Or take your experience indoors and stay in one of the lodges. The historic State Game Lodge was built in 1920. Several different visitor centers and historic sites offer a chance to see displays that provide in-depth information on the area’s history, wildlife, and more.

Evening entertainment is available at the Black Hills Playhouse during the summer months. The Buffalo Round-up and Auction is the pinnacle finale to the fall season. Visitors are encouraged to experience the rumble of buffalo hooves from viewing areas as the herds are rounded up ahead of the winter season.

The park is open year-round. Some facilities and roads may be closed during winter months.
