The sign at the trail head is a bit confusing, but if you are standing at the sign, you can go either right or left and you are on the Little Spearfish Trail loop. If you go counter clockwise you will start out with an easy hike along the creek. This is the only water for most of the trail so if you have a dog with you, take that into consideration when determining which way to start.
